How It Started: FireBozz Featured on Chek News During 2021 Wildfire Season
In July 2021, FireBozz was featured on Chek News as a Nanaimo-based company offering a unique wildfire solution: high-powered water cannons designed for fast structure protection. At the time, B.C. was in the middle of a devastating wildfire season, and FireBozz was actively pushing to get their Canadian-made system deployed to protect homes and infrastructure.
“This system can be set up by a single person and provide 300 feet of protection in all directions,” said FireBozz founder Nick Barnecut in the interview.
🔥 Early Advocacy, Lasting Impact
In the interview, FireBozz urged government agencies to act faster and scale up response systems. Though the story is now several years old, the message is just as relevant today:
We can’t wait until the fire is on the doorstep to deploy protection.
The story also highlighted FireBozz’s mission:
-
Enable fast, effective protection for critical assets
-
Reduce firefighter risk
-
Support community-level fire resilience with scalable technology
🌱 Looking Back to Look Forward
Since that 2021 news feature:
-
FireBozz has been deployed in Jasper, Yellowknife, Harmac, Vernon, and more
-
Featured on CTV News and used by municipal governments
-
Partnered with Camosun College on a wildfire innovation research project
What started as a local solution has now scaled across North America.
